TURN OFF ALL YOUR LIGHTS. REDUCE YOUR ELECTRICITY USAGE It doesn’t cost you any money, it SAVES you money. All appliances and electronics use electricity even when they are off. So, get into the habit of unplugging them or turning off the power strip when you’re not using your TV, computer, cell phone, stereo, toaster, coffee maker, etc etc etc. Also, your water heater uses energy to get the water as hot. Turn the heater down so that it’s as hot as you want, without adding cold water. (You know how we usually mix hot and cold in the shower? …Just use hot.)
The above answer states the best idea in the first sentence. Turing off lights and electronics when you leave the room is a great way to save energy. Also “phantom” electricity is being consumed just by having electronics plugged in. When finished with an appliance or electronic, unplug it.
Some other ideas are: take shorter showers, turn off faucets and dont use several electronics at once if there not needed. Ex, watching tv when using the computer.
Although you might spend a little to make the purchase, buying compact fluorescent lights (CFL) will help to save you a great amount of money in the future. You will also be conserving energy. In fact, compact fluorescent bulbs use about one fourth the amount of energy it takes a traditional incandescent bulb to use. CLF bulbs will last much longer too. In addition, be sure to only run your dishwasher (if you have one) when it’s full – this will save you tons of water, and lower your bill at the end of the month. You can also unplug your appliances when not in use. Check out the link provided for more tips!
