Natural sinks are the best solution to soaking up a city’s smog problem. Trees in particular filter the air around them and produce clean and pure oxygen. So if you’re looking for something you can do, volunteering with a tree planting or park restoration organization would be a great start. Unfortunately, the most effective means of dealing with smog occurs naturally in the form of wind and rain, and there is not a whole lot one can do about the weather :(.
The number one way to reduce air pollution, that we have a say in, is to pollute less in the first place. Wind, water, and plants all do a pretty good job of cleaning up a limited amount of air pollution, we just swamp them with too much to handle. When we reduce our pollution output we give them a chance to catch up a bit.
