Insulation that is healthy to use and helps your home to be energy efficient is a great type of insullation. Recycled Paper Insulation is made of 100% recycled paper and has been installed in numerous homes already. HempFlax Insulation is made primarily of hemp with a some polyester fiber for reinforcent. Soda is used as a natural fire retardant and chemicals are avoided. Concrete Blonds are also environmentally friendly and are great to help insulate older homes that are otherwise difficult to insulate. Additionally, Recycled denim insulation is 100% recyclable, VOC-free, and formaldehyde-free. These are a few types of insulation that is healthy for you and environmentally friendly.
Without good insulation, it doesn’t matter how efficient your heating/cooling system is. The higher the “R-Value”, the more efficient an insulation is. Batt insulation is the most common, but it is the least effective. Some earth-friendly ideas are made from newspapers or denim, but so far installation is expensive and they may not have a much higher r-value than batt insulation. The more effective kinds are rigid board or spray foam, which can have an r-value of up to 9 and creates an air-tight barrier.
