Kitchen scraps area great addition to a home compost pile. For the best comost a good mix of ingriedients is the best. You don’t want any one item to make up a large portion of your compost bin. Kichen scraps count as a nitrogen (green) source for your compost, a good compost will also have a good carbon (brown) source. Good kitchen items to add to a compost bin are vegetable waste like the woody asparagus ends, potato peels, coffee grounds, apple cores, ect ect. You can even throw in egg shells and old bread. What you want to avoid in your compost bin are things like meat, dairy, bones, and any sort of fat or oil.
