No matter what agreements are reached at the UN Climate Conference, the most important achievement that can result is a sense of commitment to sustainable values. While it is important nations agree to renew the Kyoto Protocol that will expire in 2012 to cap global emissions, if policy makers view this as the final step in solving global warming, the conference is unsuccessful. World leaders need to realize this is merely an important step in what will be a long-term commitment to achieving such temporary goals along the way.
