There are a number of technologies that scientists use to look at and track hurricanes. Among them are airplanes that are specially modified for use in hurricane research, altimetry, which is a way to identify hurricanes, computer generated animations, and satellites. It is difficult to say which is the best technology because they all examine different aspects of hurricanes. For example, satellites are a good tool for tracking, but airplanes will provide much more detailed information about the actual storm.
The best technology for looking at hurricanes is HIRAD Hurricane Imaging Radiometer, designed by NASA. It determines the wind intensity in the hurricane, and is designed to scan large areas of the ocean for microwave signals that can give scientist clues to the strength and dynamics of a potential hurricane
