A company called SIGG, based in Switzerland, developed a bottle of superior quality in 1990 (in 1993 it became part of the Museum of Modern Art in New York). Their “Original Swiss Bottle” stood out as the strongest, most durable water bottle in a field test conducted by Backpacker magazine in 2006. The bottle’s internal coating protects against acids from fruit juices and energy beverages. When concerns were raised in 2008 regarding Lexan bottles contaminating the contents with hazardous chemicals, SIGG bottles exhibited no leaching, and exceeded the demands of FDA tests.
