A likely candidate for the best energy resource is the sun.
Two significant criteria that can be considered would be the availability of a resource and its environmental impact. Clearly the sun is an inexhaustible resource which sets it ahead of the rest of the natural resources which are limited.
An additional aspect of availability that sets the sun apart is its accessibility. Unlike other forms of energy, there is no need to transport the resource since everyone has equal access to the sun. The sun’s accessibility also contributes to its minimal environmental impact. The need to extract resources leads to varying degrees of environmental degradation as well as needing a considerable investment of energy for the extraction itself. Finally, generating energy from the sun does not result in the creation of the greenhouse gas which contributes to global warming.
