There are many reason to become a vegetarian/vegan. One of the most benefitial reasons to be a vegan is for the health benefits that a purely plant based eating lifestyle offers. A healthy vegan diet can reduce the risk of obesity, heart disease, hypertension, diabetes and some forms of cancer. Of course, as with any diet, care should be taken to ensure you receive the proper nutrients and maintain a balanced diet.
As Jmendez stated, there are many reasons to become a vegan.
In addition to the health benefits, you are also saving over 100 animal lives per year, and you are decreasing your carbon footprint.
I always liked the argument that vegans/vegetarians save energy. Instead of growing crops, feeding them to livestock, and sustaining livestock, vegans/vegetarians cut out wasteful energy consumption and eat vegetables directly. Additionally, they don’t contribute to the consumption of fossil fuel, which is used to transport and slaughter animals.
