Since newborns have yet to develop their immune systems, it’s important to minimize their exposure to toxic substances. Any paint with low or no VOC (volatile organic compound) and no strong odors should be fine for a baby’s room. It’s best to prepare the room well before the baby arrives home, at least a month before. This gives ample time for the paint to cure and for any odors to go away. Also, pregnant women should not try to paint the room themselves, instead, leave to ask someone else to do so. Scraping old walls may contain lead dust which is very dangerous to the unborn child.
