The type of house that is best for the environment is made from earth. Materials like adobe, straw, cob and CEB’s (compressed earth blocks), don’t require any manufacturing with perhaps the exception of glass for windows. These homes are basic, some may say primitive. They have no electric/gas heating and cooling systems. Instead you use a fireplace and in the summer months the stone, mud and clay-like materials tend to keep the inside relatively cool. There is typically no wiring in these types of homes although that might be an option. Clothes and dishes would be washed and dried the old fashion way. Unless you have the house wired you would have an ice box of sorts to keep perishables cold.
