From a green perspective, Patagonia’s Nomad hiking boots are tops, as nearly everything on and in the Nomad was something else before it was a shoe. As for the new materials, environmentally sound methods are endorsed — like choosing cork (a renewable resource) for the footbed and tanning the leather in ways that meet environmental stewardship standards.
Used hiking boots are always more comfortable for my feet because they’ve been well worn and broken in. Outdoor gear stores like REI hold used gear sales where used products are sold for very reduced prices. Perhaps, the best kind of hiking boots are the used ones, regardless of brand.
