The beginning of a river is called the headwater. This refers to the source of the river, usually a lake, spring, swamp or snowmelt. The river flows to it’s end, or mouth. The mouth can be defined as the place where the waters of the river flow into a larger body of water, so a larger river, or ocean, for instance.
