Also known as mountain pine beetle wood concrete, Beetlecrete is a material made from the wood fiber of trees that have been killed by the mountain pine beetle. It was invented in 2007 by researchers at the University of Northern British Columbia in Prince George. It is said to “pour like concrete and cut like wood.” Beetlecrete can be used for planters, countertops, floor tiles, and garden blocks, although other applications for this material are under development.
