The Africanized honey bee has a similar amount of potency in its sting as the regular honey bee does, but is much more defensive, giving it the nickname “killer bee.” This bee is a cross between an African and Italian species of honey bee, and has been inadvertently spread across most of the world. They are considered one of the most venomous insects, aside from wasps, killing more people in the US each year than snakes do, and are seen as one of the most vicious bee species.
interesting fact: when worker bees sting, they actually dislodge their stinger…it’s removed from their abdomen. Bees can actually bite in an effort to avoid using their stinger.
