Hybrids of any kind essentially work the same way. Basically, it combines two smaller engines to efficiently produce the power of a larger engine. A hybrid car, for example, works by putting an electric motor inline with the gasoline engine. When you are accelerating or going slowly, the car uses only the electric motor, and when you are cruising at highway speed it switches to the gas motors because that is most efficient. It also does things like use wasted energy to charge the battery. Of course, there are many different variations of hybrid systems.
Hybrid yachets presumably work the same way. Though I am very skeptical of low-emission yachts because the fuel consumption of any kind of large boat is still astronomical. Making it hybrid won’t make it even remotely eco-friendly, at least not until we can up with an much more improved system.
