According to a recent report by Wards Auto, the new car fuel mileage for 2009 was 23 mpg. That’s up 8 percent from 2008.
Average MPG for passenger cars in 2006 was 22.4 mpg and the MPG for SUVs averaged about 18 mpg. That’s for all cars in general, however; not just new cars. The average MPG tends to rise about 1.4 MPG a year.
