    In 2009 the average fuel economy for a short wheel based vehicle was 23.8 mpg and for long wheel based vehicle it was 17.4 mpg. In the same year the average fuel economy of a new passenger vehicle was 32.9 mpg and it was 24.8 mpg for new trucks.
