The IUCN can’t censure countries in which it has programs or anything like that, but it serves as a place for policiy decisions to be argued and for information to be broadcasted. It has been officially recognized by the UN as a global environmental organization and has been granted official Observer status. It has a lot of clout in the worldwide community.
