What authority does the Internet Governance Forum have?

The Internet Governance Forum was established by the United Nations in 2006. Though an international effort, with participation from governments, the private sector, international organizations, and civil society, the forum does not have any direct decision-making authority. It is more of a discussion forum among the participants. To date the forum has created a number of coalitions and workshops.
