NASA describes astrobiology as “the study of the origin, evolution, distribution, and future of life in the universe.”
Astrobiology is an interdisciplinary subject, incorporating studies from planetary science, evolutionary biology, geology, chemistry, and atmospheric sciences. Astrobiology research may include searching for planets that orbit stars and analyzing planets for potential life or the ability to harbor life. Astrobiologists may investigate the atmospheric conditions on exoplanets or interstellar chemistry. Remote sensing studies in our own solar system is another part of astrobiology.
