What is the asthenosphere?

    The asthenosphere is the name of an inner layer of the Earth’s surface.  The asthenosphere is approximately 180 km thick and lies underneath the lithosphere.  It is under high pressure and temperature due to it’s specific location in the Earth’s crust.
