Some of the most impressive houses from recycled parts I have seen are called Earthships. I was lucky enough to get to visit an Earthship site in New Mexico near Taos when I vistited earlier this year. The walls of the home had different colored glass pieces from broken bottles and utilized recycled metals, wood, tires, and all sorts of other materials for the structure. (See links below) The greatest part was that the home was extremely beautiful and unique. These homes were all off the energy grid and many had their own solar panels. The homes are kept cool by smart design; which includeed materials that reflect light and the direction the houses/windows face. Tours are given if you happen to be in the area and are interested.
