According to Wikipedia, biochar is like charcoal, only instead of being used for fuel it will be used for atmospheric carbon capture and storage. It has general interest to store carbon emissions in the soil for years, which will slow global warming. Biochar can potentially significantly reduce greenhouse gases in the atmosphere; at the same time, in the soil, biochar can improve water quality, and increase soil fertility.
