What are we doing to try and reduce the amount of animal cruelty on farms?

How a days there are much stricter regulations about how animals must be treated on farms. There are inspectors that show up, either regularly on a schedule or as a surprise visit if they feel the need. These people make sure that the animals are being cared for properly.

Also, technology has helped. Automatic feeders and better heating / cooling is automatically controlled so the animals are more comfortable, even if someone is not checking on them.

Advancements in nutrition are also helpful as animals are being fed better diets.

Finally, pressure from the general public has helped to ensure better conditions. If the general public hears that a company is not treating their animals correctly, they can choose to not purchase that product, thus putting pressure on the company to perform well.
