If your tree is still in the pot, then plant it in moist soil (this is key). If the ground is quite dry due to drought, or extremely hot weather is expected in the forecast, then leave the tree in the potter until more favorable conditions arrive. Red maple’s require partial shade and very moist soil. It will need to be watered weekly for the first few years of its life. If your tree is an adult already, then just make sure that it gets plenty of water during the warmer months of the year. See below for signs of over or under-watering.
