what are two reason why we use electrophoresis buffer

When proteins and nucleic acids are placed in an electrophoresis gel for the purpose of purifying and/or separating macromolecules – such as in DNA analysis – the electrophoresis buffer supplies a current and keeps the PH level consistent. The result is higher resolution. A buffer solutions containing a small percentage of agarose also serves to filter the larger molecules from the smaller molecules of DNA by passing them through a porous lattice: http://faculty.plattsburgh.edu/donald.slish/Electrophoresis.html
