Lightweight roofing materials are synthetic polymers blended with other ingredients such as rubber, UV inhibitors, cellulose fibers and colorants that simulate slate and shake materials. They may take longer to install but are less expensive, easier to handle, make less waste and require less structural support. Tough tested for impact and fire resistance, and some have met Class A fire requirements already.
