What are they hoping to accomplish by removing the dams in the Klamath River?

The main idea behind the project is to reopen the river for salmon.  Since its installment, the dams have prevented salmon from heading up stream and spawning.  In addition to disrupting the habitat of the fish, the dams have caused algae to build up in the reservoirs.  Once they are removed, it is hoped the natural environment of the Klamath will be restored.
