Rice is high in fiber, and low in fat, compared to potatoes or pasta, which may be higher in starch.
Eating a lot of rice is a better source of carbs than potato chips, unhealthy snacks, or junk food. It is often served along with a protein source and a vegetable source in many asian and other cultural dishes. Overconsumption of carbs is not a good move as it can accumulate and turn into fat, and is often after a certain limit, a source of empty calories.
