Synthetic organic chemicals or SOCs are man-made, or anthropogenic, chemicals that mimic those found in nature. There are many SOCs with a variety of purposes from pesticides, solvents, wood preservatives, coal and oil combustion, agriculture to auto operation and flavors for foods and perfume scent. Examples include phenols, hydrogenated aromatics and petroleum hydrocarbons.
