Steel cans and other consumer steel recyclables are usually collected from curbside, drop-off sites, or multi-material buyback centers. Cars, ships, trains, and steel from old buildings contribute the most to recycled steel. Currently about 95% of the steel in these products is being recycled. Out of 15.7 million tons of steel recycled in the US, 14 million tons is from cars.
