Some of the worst water pollutants are arsenic, mercury, aluminum and lead. Most of these pollutants come from sewage of chemical or manufacturing plants. In many states, these industries were/are allowed to dump their chemicals in areas called toxic mixing zones in the water supplies. These toxic mixing zones are areas on waterways that the EPA allow for dumping. Unfortunately, a large portion of these toxic mixing zones have become SuperFund sites, which mean they are the top 2 percent most polluted sites int he country…pretty scary, huh?
We need to keep an eye on water pollution I think the EPA is doing a pretty good job but it can always be improved.
