Hospitals are open 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. Its hard to imagine how much energy they use in the span of each year, and that is why it is so important for them to run as “greenly” as possible. Glen Cove hospital in New York is a great example of a hospital which has taken numerous steps to use less energy and has even been awarded an Energy Star rating from the EPA. They have updated their cooling systems to use well water, which is much more efficient than conventional systems. They have also installed water conserving bathroom fixtures and has upgraded to energy efficient equipment for their plumbing, boilers, lighting, roofing, and window systems.
