Good question, SEVEB. There are many things we can do to green existing buildings. Making sure that it is well insulated to prevent cold air from leaking in during the winter is a good way to cut down on the amount of energy it costs to heat the building. Similarly, in the summer, to prevent excessive energy consumption to cool the building, try to open some windows and not use your a/c if it is not too bad out, otherwise, maybe set it to a milder degree. Gardens could be planted on the roof. New toilets could be installed along with low flow fixtures to cut down on water usage.
Hope this helps!
It is important to make small changes. Try to make sure that light bulbs, appliances, windows, etc. are as efficient as possible. As Jeff mentioned, not being wasteful with resources is also important.
