Internationally, water-monitoring systems are becoming more popular, with the majority of Canadian homes having a meter installed. The EPA says that water meters can reduce water use from 20-40%. Pressure to stop constructing dams and other “water diversion infrastructure” has been on the rise. Another method that has been suggested but has not yet been thoroughly enacted is the adjustment of farming subsidies based on water use…did you know that 70% of the world’s water is used for crop irrigation?
