The simplest, most obvious way is to simply not ship things as far. However, this is not as simple as it first seems. Since many things grow better in certain climates than others and people tend to demand a a variety of food choices, this can be difficult. So, some of the responsibility falls on the consumer as well. Many people have chosen to eat a “100-mile diet” to support local agriculture. This restricts the variety of foods available to a person, but it can also be very healthy if done right.
