Old leaves can be used for a number of things, both energy-conscious and for fun. Here’s a site I found with more crafty uses (scarecrows, wreathes, etc.): http://www.doityourself.com/stry/autumnleavesproject. If you really want to be eco-friendly about it, they are an excellent ingredient in homemade compost because of the nutrients inherent in the leaves.
Here’s a youtube video on how best to use them in this way. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSYbVHOmHog
Old leaves will eventually biodegrade and turn into nutrients for soil. Some types of plants can be burned and used as biofuel as well.
