It has been thought that warming climates would increase the carbon consumption by trees, but now there have been studies that contradict those findings. It is not thought that the warming climate’s impact on earlier snow melts is negatively effecting trees’ ability to absorb carbon. Trees absorb more water from snow than rain so the deficit need for water cannot be made up if warming decreases snow. This decreased ability to absorb carbon will compound the carbon build up since trees account for a large percentage of carbon sinks.
