The U.S. Army is currently planning to invest $7.1 Billion in renewable energy. The goal is to reach 25 percent renewable energy power by 2025. The army has quoted rising fuel prices as a reason for this. Also, the military will have increased abilities to function in a combat environment that is lacking in fuel resources. Moreover, the army will not have to rely on foreign oil for it’s operational costs. The army is one of the biggest consumers of energy in the country. The fact that the army is investing in renewable energy may encourage renewable energy production in the private sector as well.
