Right now, the future of the Galapagos Islands as we first discovered it hangs in the precipice….the fragile ecosystem there is very susceptible to such recent changes as climate change, and is evident in the El Nino ocean current. Yet another change to the Galapagos is the way humans have changed the island- we have introduced non-native species to the islands and create waste through tourism and over-fishing. Unfortunatly, human impact has taken a huge toll. In 2001, a large oil spill reached the island, thus affecting species all along the coastlines there. This is the most recent large event to negatively impact the islands.
