The main con with fixed gear bicycles is the often lack of a brake. But then again, the whole point of riding a fixed gear is that the rider trusts him or herself with control of the bike. The pros can be subjective. For me and a lot of fixed riders I know, the main advantage is the feel aspect. The simplicity of a fixed gear bike puts everything on the rider and how he/she feels the road and the capacity of the bike to handle speed, braking, and urban obstacles. Fixed gear bikes are meant for the track/velodrome. So ideally, taking fixed gear bikes out of the velodrome into the urban environment was risky in the first place.
