Eco-friendly mattresses have wooden frames that are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council. The fillings are made of natural latex that come naturally from tree sap. To protect yourself in the case of a fire, choose a mattresses with naturally fire-retardant wool that has been certified by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s fire test. This type of wool also prevents dust mites and is allows for room to breathe in air. The strings in the mattress should come from a highly recyclable steel base. Finally, the mattress should be wrapped in organic wool and cotton, or other biodegradable and/or organic fabrics.
Eco-friendly mattresses are made with organic materials. For instance, 100% natural latex is an important organic component. It is better than the synthetic latex that is normally used. Also, a green mattress would be made with organic cotton because the pesticides used to grow non-organic cotton are harmful to the environment. When looking for a green mattress, just make sure that everything is certified organic.
