A lack of sanitation can cause disease (due to drinking unsanitized water or being exposed to human excrement, etc.), damage to the environment (due to disposing of waste improperly), infections and even death.
The National Center for Policy Analysis (NCPA) says nearly 2 million children die each year due to lack of access to clean water and sanitation.
Water.org says lack of sanitation is the number one cause of infection worldwide.
There can also be a lot of social problems created by lack of sanitation in a city. People won’t want to be in a city or go around town when it’s not clean. This can create low morale along with the many health issues, such as disease and infection.
