    BBC reported in 2002 that, at the time, a species of Argentine ant had formed “the largest supercolony ever recorded.” The supercolony stretched from northern Italy to the Atlantic coast of Spain, clocking in with billions of ants and millions of nests. See the link below for more information.

    On January 16, 2002, Guinness World Records reported the largest recorded ant colony to date. It stretched 3,700 miles. The colony went  from Northern Italy to Spain. This colony was made up of Argentine ants.
