The largest seed bank in the world by size is the Svalbard Global Seed Vault, located in an underground cavern on the Norwegian island of Spitsbergen. After additions for the vault’s first-year anniversary (Feb. 26, 2009), the seed bank contained 400,000 seed samples and more than 20 million actual seeds. The Millenium Seed Bank Project is another major seed storage facility, with large, underground, frozen vaults housing the world’s largest collection of seeds — more than 1 billion seeds are stored here.
