The Chicago Tree Initiative (CTI) is a coalition of government and non-profit organizations started Arbor Day 2009 in order to plant more trees within the City of Chicago and to take better care of the trees that have already been planted. The CTI’s mission “is to improve quality of life in Chicago by increasing public awareness about the value and importance of trees.” IT documents the status of trees, searches for the best habitats for trees in the city and plans the location of each new group of trees to be planted. The CTI also host events and tours around Chicago to showcase the benefits of urban trees.
