A company called Algenol Biofuels based in the Sonoran desert of Mexico has developed a process with an expected annual production rate of 6,000 gallons per acre, intending to deliver 1 billion gallons a year starting in 2012. Some other algae fuel companies are Solix Biofuels based in Coyote Gulch, Colo and Sapphire Energy, a refinery in Southern New Mexico.
