Landfill energy projects are ventures that seek to capture methane gas from decaying refuse and purify it into usable liquified natural gas (LNG). The largest landfill energy project in the United States is the Altamont facility located in Livermore, California, which produces 13,000 gallons of LNG per day. Other important projects of this nature include the EcoLine Project in Rochester, New Hampshire, Ox Mountain at Half Moon Bay, California and Oak Grove Landfill Renewable Methane Project in Winder, Georgia.
