What are some lakes in the United States that could represent the size of the oil spill in the gulf?

The oil spill was huge! It could completely cover any of the great lakes except maybe Superior and could cover Salt Lake in Utah several times over. Check out this cool interactive map where you can move the spill anywhere in the world to look at its relative size.

Let me put it another way: the most common total estimate for oil from the leak is 5,000,000 barrels. That is about one-quarter of one day’s consumption of oil in the US. Six hours. Every six hours, seven days a week, 365 days a year, the US uses the total amount of oil that spilled into the Gulf from this disaster.
